The last few months have been unbelievably busy for our family. Between an adoption and moving, it has been a whirlwind of emotions and busy-ness, mixed with a lot of living day to day! So, when our daughter brought up her idea for her next major Love Project, it once again took everything in me not to give her a BIG FAT “NO WAY JOSE!!”
I listened to her idea and while I absolutely fell in love with it, I asked her to wait until school started again before we started. My never-ending To-Do Lists were only getting longer with adjusting to a family of six, meeting the transitional needs of every member in our family, now selling a home, and looking for a new place to live in another state.
But, when we evaluated our calendar, we realized it was NOW or not this year!!
On September 28th, Jordyn will be hosting an Operation Christmas Child Party (location TBD) in support of Samaritan’s Purse. Her goal is to make and collect 1000 shoeboxes filled with gifts for children all over the world who are in need. When she filled out the Volunteer Form for Samaritan’s Purse, here is what she wrote:
“My name is Jordyn and I am 7 years old. I want to help with the shoeboxes because Jesus tells me to help people that need help. I want to listen to what Jesus says because that is the right thing to do. My goal is to get 1000 shoeboxes together. I am going to ask people to help on my website and at my church.”
While we will be seeking local donations and making/collecting the boxes locally, here are three different ways YOU can get involved no matter where you are!
1. Create a Best Friend Box – Jordyn would love for each one of the shoeboxes she collects/makes to have a “best friend”. By doing this, she can DOUBLE her goal of 1000 boxes! Check out this link to see how to pack your own Shoe Box. After your box is packed, please post a comment or picture of your box to our Facebook page, Faith Like a Child, Inc (or you can send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org). We’d love to be able to track where the Best Friend Boxes are coming from!! AND… did you know you can even follow your box to find out where it lands? How amazing is that? Click HERE for more info! To find a local drop-off location to bring your shoebox, please check out this link to contact the Regional Office near you!
2. Throw your own Operation Christmas Child Party and collect Best Friend Boxes. Perhaps this could be a fun ministry idea for Schools, Youth Groups, Children’s Churches, LIFE Groups, or Churches to do together. You can even order FREE Party Pack supplies from Operation Christian Child using this link right here.
3. Sponsor a Shoe Box ($15) or contribute towards the shipping costs of the Shoe Boxes ($7), as we will need $7000 to ship the boxes. These shipping costs also include a Gospel Presentation in the local native tongue, with many boxes receiving a 12 week Discipleship and a Bible. Please use the FLAC’s Paypal Account on the right hand side bar if you would like to contribute!
Jordyn has already gone to six stores to seek out donations. She’s been told no twice, was asked to write a letter to corporate three times, and was given about $35 worth of supplies from another store. She still has an awesome list of stores she’d like to go to and what she will ask of them.
In fact, here’s a sneak peek:
McDonald’s – Happy Meal Toys
CVS – Soap and Bandaids
Costco – Pens and Pencils
Walmart – Stuff for beds
JC Penny – Clothes
Chick-Fil-A – Comic Books
It has been precious to watch her ask to speak to the Manager of the store and explain what she wants to do and why! I have watched annoyed Managers melt right in front of me as Jordyn shares her love for Jesus! We’d love for you to jump on board with this Love Project and we can’t wait to share the different ways Jordyn will be working to collect these boxes!
